Men’s basketball coach Darren Vorderbruegge spent time in China during late July and early August. This was his fourth trip to the country, directing youth basketball camps and leading coaching clinics, and graduate assistants Michael Johnson and Tyler Harris and players Spencer Vering, Darnell Bettis, and David Rowlands joined him. This year, Vorderbruegge assisted young players in Kunming, Wenzhou, and Hangzhou, and he also was the featured speaker at a three-day coaches’ clinic in Shaoxing.

When asked about the trip, Coach V stated, “It’s a lot of hard work in hot weather. But, it’s very rewarding. The kids and coaches are excited and receptive to be exposed to American basketball. This opportunity is a tremendous way to give back to the sport and most importantly to represent Hawai‘i Pacific University on the global stage.”

Vorderbruegge received honors this year as the PacWest Conference, West Region, and NCAA DII National Coach of the Year.
