New Employees Experience HPU’s Onboarding & Orientation Program

The first cohort of new employees to attend Onboarding & Orientation. Welcome!
Led by HR Directors Bernard Nunies and Bert Shimabukuro, the Office of Human Resources launched its Onboarding & Orientation Program for new employees. The inaugural two-hour session on December 20, 2016 provided new faculty and staff with an introduction to the University’s mission, vision, and values and delved into what aloha, pono, and kuleana mean in the context of our shared commitment to HPU’s students. The program began in the Aloha Tower Marketplace’s Welcome Center and ended with a walking tour of the downtown campus. President John Gotanda, SVP Matthew Liao-Troth, SVP Jan Boivin, VP Sam Moku, and VP Greg Grauman welcomed the cohort into the fold of the HPU ‘ohana.

The session came on the heels of a companion enculturation experience at the Iolani Palace on December 9, 2016.  Led by Kupuna-in-Residence Lynette Cruz, new employees and their spouses were invited to learn about our diverse island culture and what it means to live and work aloha.

All new HPU employees will be scheduled to attend an Onboarding & Orientation session, which will generally be held every six to eight weeks. The next session is planned for January 31, 2017. For more information, please contact Human Resources at hr@hpu.edu.
