HPU Leads Campaign to Benefit Make-A-Wish Hawaii

Circle K International, Student Alumni Council and Staff Council of Hawai‘i Pacific University led the university’s 3rd annual Macy’s Letter Writing Campaign, benefiting Make-A-Wish Hawaii. The 2016 HPU campaign team set a goal of writing 5,000 letters to Santa, which would result in Macy’s donating $2 per letter or a total of more than $11,000 to Make-A-Wish Hawaii.

Over November and December, members of the HPU ‘ohana across the university, participated in the campaign. HPU exceeded its goal with 5,525 letters written and a donation of $11,050 to Make-A-Wish Hawaii.

In 2014, while serving as HPU Circle K International President, Avery Fukeda (BSBA ’15) started the first HPU campaign, collecting more than 4,250 letters and Macy’s donating $8,500 to Make-A-Wish Hawaii. The overall three year total for the HPU Macy’s Letter Writing Campaign is more than 10,000 letters and $20,000 donated to Make-A-Wish Hawaii.

This year’s campaign would not have been possible without the leadership and support from: Special Events & Recognition Committee Member (Event Chair) Avery Fukeda, Circle K International President Jackie Tran, Staff Council Chair Maile Lee, Staff Council Vice-Chair Joanne Nakano, Staff Council Division Representatives Joan Ishaque, Derek Enoki, Darcy Query, Missy Correia and Darren Vorderbruegge, Special Events & Recognition Committee Chair Lei Ana Green, Office of Academic Affairs Tracy Tangonan, Center for Academic Success Lisa Ishikuro, Student Alumni Council Executive Council, and countless others who helped to make it a success.

Additionally, HPU would like to acknowledge the help it received from friends in the community including: Maryknoll Grade School Students, University of Hawaii Manoa Circle K International, University of Hawaii at Hilo Circle K International, University of Hawaii Maui College Circle K International, Key Club International Division 22 Hikina Key Clubs, and many more who helped to reach the HPU goal.
