BSN alumna earns PhD

Avis Ing-Randolph (BSN ’07), Ph.D., successfully defended her dissertation and earned her doctorate — Nursing Research-Quantitative — from UCLA in May. The title of her dissertation is Effect of a Group Music Nursing Intervention on Anxiety among Individuals with Mild to Moderate Dementia in Los Angeles Assisted Living Facilities.”

On her HPU education, Ing-Randolph credits her professors from the Nursing program.

“I had several awesome nursing professors who equipped, supported, wrote on my behalf and encouraged me while a pre- and post-licensure BSN student,” she said. “Their hard work paid off. Aloha and Mahalo!”

Ing-Randolph is a music in nursing researcher and music teacher/owner of Music & Moves. Previously, she was an RN case manager, providing nursing assessments and skilled care in home settings for post-acute discharge patients.

In addition to her Nursing degrees, Ing-Randolph holds a bachelor’s degree in music education.

Patricia Lange-Otsuka, Ed.D., Ing-Randolph’s HPU Nursing professor, said, “We used her love for music to incorporate into her nursing work and assignments led to this.”
