Costa Rica faculty-led program this summer: deadline Fri, April 1


Interested in studying abroad in Costa Rica this summer? Spend two weeks exploring the diverse wildlife and ecosystems of Costa Rica while earning HPU academic credit! No prerequisites or Spanish language fluency required.

July 15-July 30, 2016 
Application Deadline: April 1, 2016

Estimated Cost
Tuition: $740/credit*
Program fee: ~$1850/student
Includes housing, meals, tips, tour guides, excursion fees, activities, educational supplies & in country transportation
Does NOT include: airline ticket, alcohol, souvenirs, clinic/hospital visit co-pays, phone/internet expenses, after class personal activities, etc.

*HPU Summer Grant
In order to help keep down costs of summer study abroad programs, students may choose to apply for an HPU Summer Grant to go toward their summer tuition.
Please note: Only those students who turn in a complete application by the deadline will be considered for the grant.

Course: ENVS 1030/6070: Tropical Ecology & Sustainability • 
Credits: 3
In this course, a variety of tropical biology topics will be studied. Prior to travel, students will have reading assignments, online discussions & quizzes about safety, travel in Costa Rica, expectations, background info on each site that will be visited, basic information on Costa Rica, tropical ecology basics, etc.  After becoming familiar with principles of tropical ecology, conservation and sustainability, and their host country, students will have the chance to plant trees, visit an organic chocolate farm, stay on a sustainable living ranch, visit a turtle refuge, conduct numerous nature and wildlife hikes through national parks and refuges and many more activities throughout a number of ecosystems. The course concludes with a reflection paper that addresses the questions posed throughout the course.

o Part II: Needs disclosure, Essay, Signature
o Clear copy of valid passport
o Medical Form
o Scholarship/Summer Grant Application (additional essay + finaid assessment form)
o If below a 3.0, GPA petition
